Aesthetic and Method Research

The design impetus came from reverse engineering the lattice stutcture present in the Adidas shoe to apply it to other shoe models and purposes. This lattice design recovers downward energy into the upkick, making it adventageous for long distance running. I intend to apply this concept towards other modes of movement, namely in navigating New York City. Concreate sidewalks contribute to stresses of repetative movement agaisnt unforgiving surfaces. The spring like action of this lattice softens the impact of reptative force agaisnt sidewalks while also recovering downward energy to reduce stresses of walking and standing for long periods of time, as often occurs while living in New York City.
Begining with the Unit cell for the lattice structure, I determined the plug-in for the 3D design software Rhinceros, IntraLattice from McGill’s Additive Design & Manufacturing Laboratory, as a desirable workflow because it enables custom cells as well as complex form geometry. Filements Selected
sole: Flexfil TPU 98A note: selected for abrasion resistance, tear strength, and semi-flexible
midsole: Chinchilla 3d Printer Filament (75A) note: selected for medium-hard shore value to ensure give while steping
Temporary Conclusion:
Sole 3D design has been rendered and is ready for test prinitng. Project is on hold until I can get access to appropriate manufacturing tools, higher computing power to refine the design.
